Why We Changed Our Mission Statement

We pride ourselves in inspiring the next generation of dreamers. In the past 11 years, we have seen over 11,000 children’s imaginations ignite through our art therapy-based programming. Drawchange was created because a single artist dreamed of infusing hope into the lives of others.

Jennie Lobato, founder/CEO, began wondering how she could create safe spaces for children living in uncertainty. She knew firsthand how art can empower a child from the inside out.

Drawchange was born in 2009 with the mission of giving impoverished children a tool to envision their dreams, boost their self-esteem, and become empowered to know they could be anything they want to be in life.

It is essential our mission statement encompasses all that we do and the power behind our programs.

For the first ten years of operation, our mission statement was:

Established in 2009, drawchange is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to aid global change by supplying the world’s children with empowering art experiences. Together we can provide empowering programs that allow them to effectively visualize a better life for themselves.”

We recently added to our mission statement to explain how we actually turn the vision we speak of into reality. Our seven core competencies shape the expressive and fun activities we provide for children.

As of February 10, 2020, our new mission statement is:

“Drawchange is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering impoverished children through the use of art therapy-based programming. Our programs teach coping skills that foster Self-esteem, Imagination, Collaboration, Empowerment, Dream-building, Creation, And Stress-Relief.”

By adding our Core Competencies, we are showing the world what is most important to us! We wholeheartedly believe that children deserve to have these values infused into their daily lives. We not only craft our Curriculum around these principles, but we shape our organization’s culture around them as well.
